I will tell you a little about what exactly epilepsy is.
Epilepsy is a condition in which a dog has seizures. This condition can be very frightening for both dog and owner. Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes unpredictable seizures, which can be accompanied by disturbances, uncontrolled movements, loss of consciousness, etc. A dog suffering from epilepsy can be subject to these seizures at any time and the owner must be ready to react and help the dog when this seizure occurs. Attacks can be caused by stress, hormones, hereditary problems, etc.
It is important for owners of an epileptic dog to be aware of the condition and know what to do in the event of a seizure. When we first encountered it, it was very difficult to find information, especially in Latvian. Veterinarians, of course, know that such diseases exist, but the owner, who wants to get information, has very little or no material.
I have done a lot of research and reading over the years so that I would know and be able to spot these seizures early so that I could prepare myself and help Elton not hurt himself. We have a fantastic vet who has been very helpful and informative so I know how to react and what to do and has been very helpful when something sudden happens and I need help.
We are prescribed special medication that we take every day to reduce these attacks and keep our bodies in a state where they happen very rarely. We are helped. But there are other dogs that may not be helped by medication...
It is important to remember that an epileptic dog is a special animal that needs extra attention and care. Different training and daily routines. Owners must be prepared to respond quickly and provide the necessary care to their pet to ensure its safety and well-being. With proper treatment and attention, an epileptic dog can live a full and happy life.
